“It has been incredibly satisfying to make these nests at a time when the birds in my garden are busy building homes of hope for their offspring. Each foraged twig and feather is carefully bound together, sometimes using spider web, with driven promise of a new generation. I sit in my garden arranging collected flora and yarns in an array of colourways, while the wagtails, the peewees and magpies look down from the tree tops, curious to watch me studying them. I am the ornithology student of circular woven marvels for which the birds themselves have no guide book. My own fledglings are energetically forging lives of their own, surpassing my expectations for them. A tiny nest; a source of comfort and protection, so symbolic of heights, chances and future potential.”
