Peter O'Meagher

I’ve always admired and enjoyed the warmth of wood. Even when I was a little kid, I was probably one of the first “Tree Huggers”. I’m a Baby Boomer so lived through the utilitarian period of laminates and plastic but always preferred plonking my porridge bowl down on a forgiving wooden table, while perched on a warm wooden chair.

So when I frequently saw various shapes and sizes of once proud wooden “stuff” - bedheads, sideboards, ageing well used tables, old cedar cladding, transport pallets, carpenters’ off-cuts - left out for land fill or in a rubbish skip on a building site, I thought that wasn’t an appropriate end-of-life. So I decided that while not having the skills – or the room in my house, to try restoration, I’d at least recycle them and give them a new life in a form that may allow them to be loved by a few more generations and perhaps leave a few more trees standing to be hugged.
