ARTIST BIO

Hank Spirek

Hank is a professional artist with over 55 years of exhibition experience.

“I began my art journey in 1965 at Loras College, Iowa, without a traditional art background. I couldn’t draw, knew little about color theory or composition, and felt like a blank canvas. After two years of struggle, I transferred to Northern Illinois University, seeking greater challenges. The turbulent political climate of the USA—race riots, the Vietnam War, and assassinations—shaped my work. Influenced by two professors, I was drawn to creating art that explored the human experience rather than beauty. My work evolved from bird imagery to the human figure, and now focuses on the concept of energy, particularly through music.”
